"Katie's sugar blues workshop helped me realize that instead of looking at health concerns as things I can't have, that really it's about adding new healthier foods that in turn make me feel happier!"
Christina, Interior Designer Portland, OR"Thank you so much for such a wonderful evening. I can't say enough about the 'real' joy of cooking that you create and inspire. I am so pleased that the recipes you shared as so easy and delicious, but more than that, it's great how you know their nutritional value and exactly how the food benefits our bodies. It feels good to have this information.
I wasn't feeling particularly well the other morning and I saw the bone broth and thought, that's exactly what I need. It was like a shot of ....wellness. I felt nourished on a deep level and felt so much better. I'm so glad that I had it in the fridge, just what I needed. After just two classes with you and I already know what food to reach for and when. I am looking forward to learning more great nutritional staples to have in the house. When can we have our next class?"
Marsea, Inspired Health Counselor in Training Portland, OR"I would spin in circles if I didn’t take time to stop, breath, and make time for myself. Before finding IntuWholeness I was working almost nonstop and not taking any time for the things that keep me sane and well. So, even though my business and passion for cooking were thriving my overall health and wellbeing started to suffer. In general I was experiencing fear and anxiety that I never had before, inability to eat breakfast at home:) and I was not taking time to address my own needs - my business and myself were synonymous. I was in need of focus within my business to continue to stride ahead, but with clarity - this is what Katie and I worked on over the course of our sessions together.
Every time we met and drank tea together, I felt calmer. I felt like life was not an insurmountable problem that I had to face each day. I felt less scattered and less whirling. I started to see that there were many tools at my fingertips that I can sneak into my workdays to keep me alert, focused, and flowing with productive energy. And how it’s important to rest!
Since I work with delicious healthful foods, it was amazing to see how nourishing and important other forms of “food” can be - soul food for me is dancing and moving, good sleep and visits with friends, as well as taking little bits of time to do the things I’ve loved to do since I was a kid. Remembering how I love to play and how much play, love and rest are so central to our health and wellness! This is a great thing to be awakened to.
I started to work with the tips and tools that Katie customized for me, working through exercises and self-exploration. I was amazed by how much time and personal attention she gave me each session. And then, poof! I started to feel overall a sense of balance in my life. Wow, I can fit in a few sun salutations in the morning! Stopping computer time by 9 is great for sleep! I love Katie’s 5 minutes energy exercise, and I do it almost every day.
With Katie’s help I learned the most important lesson of being open to what I can do that is right around me and right before me that increases my happiness and wellbeing. As a result my business continues to thrive and I am not dwindling in spirit or energy! My experience with IntuWholeness grounded me and is something I am fortunate to reap the benefits of every single day."
Abby Fammartino - Chef/Owner of Abby’s Table, LLC Portland, OR"Digestive problems have been a daily battle for me ever since I can remember. I had heard of wheat/gluten intolerance, but never gave it much thought in my own life. As my stomach and digestive comfort worsened over recent years, I decided to look into to wheat/gluten intolerance further. While eating in Blossoming Lotus, I saw a flyer for an Eating Gluten Free workshop at Blue Sky Wellness. It was perfect timing in my life for me to receive more information on Gluten free eating. I signed up for the workshop that day.
Katie Decker hosted the workshop. Welcomed by a friendly face and with yummy, local gluten free baked goods on the table, I knew this workshop was exactly what I needed. As a diagnosed Celiac, Katie brought much insight to the world of being gluten free. Her background and knowledge were helpful in shedding light on wheat/gluten intolerances and how to manage the gluten free diet in a world where pizza, bread, and beer are all about us. The workshop opened my eyes to much of what Portland has to offer the gluten free eater. Katie provided us with very useful handouts listing all sorts of resources available on the subject from books, websites, to local restaurants. She also provided us with a list showing "Gluten Free Foods" and "Not Gluten Free Foods". I have found this list to be extremely helpful.
Finally, in comparing stories with others in the group, I felt that I was not crazy and the stomach issues I have been dealing are also felt by many others. It was comforting to discuss my concerns with others. Overall, the workshop was very helpful and educational and I continue to utilize the information provided to me by Katie everyday in my Gluten Free days."
Melissa, Designer/Developer Outerwear and Apparel. Portland, OR"Katie and I have been friends since college and I have known that she has worked hard at sustaining a healthy and fulfilling life while working in the same stressful architecture industry as myself. I needed guidance on how to handle stress from the day to day work and personal life challenges as well as starting my Architectural Registration Exam's. Most importantly, learning to deal with my stress without over indulging after a rough day in lieu of making a healthier decision on how to handle the day.
I enjoyed trying everything Katie suggested. Something's were not for me but a lot of the suggestions were very helpful and I have taken them with me and still use day to day. I appreciated that Katie was sensitive my individual situation and was understanding that - some things were not for me. I never felt pressured, it was a very peaceful and low stress journey.
I am enjoying that I have balanced out quite a bit since working with Katie. I am doing much better at making healthy choices to deal with stress like going to yoga or working out. And if I do choose an occasional night out on the town I don't put as much guilt on myself for doing that in moderation as opposed to excess. I am eating home more and preparing my breakfast and lunches to eat at home more as well which has been great. I am still eating Kale and good greens like that too! I have also continued to journal from time to time to remember my 10 things I am grateful for as well as to get some of my worries off my mind...very helpful!
Katie is a very open, caring, compassionate, and beautiful person. Working with her was great and I have taken so much of what she has taught me to heart and am reminded of so much of it as I continue my journey to my own sustainable happy and healthy life!"
Lindsay, Architect Boise, ID"I truly enjoyed Katie and Abby's information sessions with the January Jumpstart series. I found their approach extremely knowledgeable and at the same time accessible. I got lots of great ideas for simple Go-To recipes and fabulous recommendations for making some of my favorite dishes even healthier. Both ladies share the insight to help you improve upon your normal daily food choices and were extremely resourceful in making recommendations for truly succeeding in living a VIBRANT and HEALTHY lifestyle.”
